We like to bring the latest technology in frame and lens design to the North West. Myopia therapy is a hot topic worldwide in Optometry. It is a relatively new field but the results are so promising that we can now be confident there is a real alternative to having to increase the power of short-sighted children at each visit to give them clear vision.
Stellest works by having a control zone at the edge of the lens. A constellation of invisible lenslets act on the areas of the retina that stimulate lengthening of the eye in myopia. The central part of the lens provides the current prescription.
In other words, the lens corrects the current myopia and slows it down at the same time.
Two year clinical trials have shown a slowing down in the worsening of childhood short-sight by 67% on average when worn 12 hours per day.
COSTS FOR OUR MYOPIA PLAN ARE AS FOLLOWS:
The initial pair including frames is £149 then £29 is paid per month by direct debit ongoing.
The monthly fee then covers:
1) An Enhanced NHS eye examination with our optician every 6 months including a 3D retinal scan.
2) A pair of replacement glasses every year with Stellest lenses.
3) Replacement Stellest lenses at any time should the prescription change by more than 2 steps (0.5 dioptres).
4) Any duplicate or additional children’s glasses with Stellest lenses are £349, as is a one-off purchase without being on the Care Plan.
Stellest lenses are made of polycarbonate and have an anti-reflective coating and UV blocking agent to provide 100% UV protection. They are lighter, tougher and thinner than standard lenses and can be fitted to all children’s and young adult’s frames.
When prescribing Stellest we take a number of measurements to ensure your child is looking out of the very centre of the lens to benefit from the “control” zone. Our qualified optician monitors the progression of the myopia every 6 months and provides guidance and ongoing care throughout the development years.
If you would like to discuss with the optician whether this lens would benefit your child please book an Enhanced NHS eye examination online or call us on 0161 456 3623.
We will discuss with you in detail how the lens and our Myopia Care Plan works, and whether your child would be suitable. Studies have shown that the sooner we start intervening to slow down the myopia the better the final outcome.
Studies show a 67% average reduction in worsening over 2 years with a possible full dioptre difference in prescription by 24 months
Eye growth and lengthening is the cause of myopia in children during their development years
